Mie ayam, mi ayam or bakmi ayam (Indonesian for ‘chicken bakmi’, literally chicken noodles) is a common Indonesian dish of seasoned yellow wheat noodles topped with diced chicken meat (ayam).
It is derived from culinary techniques employed in Chinese cuisine.
In Indonesia, the dish is recognized as a popular Chinese Indonesian dish, served from simple travelling vendor carts frequenting residential areas, humble street-side warung to restaurants.
How to cook:
- Microwave seasoning into a bowl for 20 secs.
Microwave chicken separately for 45-60 secs. - Cook frozen noodle in 1L boiling water. Immediately poke and stir noodle with chopstick/fork to untangle the noodle.
Recommended cooking time: 1 Minute (Chewy) to 1.5 Minutes OR 2 Minutes for soft texture. - Strain and put noodle into the seasoning bowl (from step 1), mix well then add your chicken on top. You can also add the chilli sauce according to your liking (no need to microwave the chilli sauce).
- Put the concentrated soup into a small bowl, then add 80ml of hot water. Soup is to be served on the side (separate from noodle).
- Add fried shallot and fried chicken skin to your noodle.
Recommended to airfry/oven fried chicken skin for 2 mins at 180C for extra crunchy texture.
